Bio: Gary Szabo
Since he was a young boy, he's had an allure for the sea.
Early on he was captivated by the television series - "Sea
Hunt and Flipper", knowing then the ocean and everything
near it would become a lifelong passion.
While in college, he learned to scuba dive and soon began
his quest to explore the ocean and the treasures it held.
With an interest in photography since his early teens; he
began to document the undersea world on film and years later
with video.
A native of New Jersey, he's been diving the many shipwrecks
off its coast for nearly 30 years. He's also explored
shipwrecks and dive sites throughout the United States, and other locations.
He's been a career firefighter with the Trenton Fire
Department for 24 years.
Since 1986 he's held a U.S. Coast Guard Masters License-100
ton and was one
of the captain's of the legendary N.J. based charter dive
boat - "SEEKER".
He also freelances as a cameraman for WZBN-TV
News, covering
general news and sports assignments. He also assists his
close friend Dan Crowell of
Seeker
Digital Productions; having worked on several underwater
productions that have appeared on network television.
He frequently shares his video and photography with area
dive clubs and has presented seminars at "Beneath the Sea"
for several years.
Nowadays, though no longer involved in the charter boat
business, he can be found navigating his private dive boat
"EXPLORER" in the waters off New Jersey diving shipwrecks
and continues to travel to new destinations.
