The area off
the coast of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, known as the
“Graveyard of the Atlantic” has consumed thousands of ships
and countless numbers of lives.
Its strong
currents, severe weather and navigational challenges have
endangered mariners for centuries.
Hatteras is
where the cold waters of the Labrador Current and the warm
waters of the Gulf Stream collide, creating treacherous
conditions for mariners.
Despite the
often rough conditions, the waters off the Outer Banks offer
some of the best wreck diving on the east coast.
